Dive in.
Adventure awaits.
Four cottages on the shore of the Pantar Strait, a boat across the road and some of the healthiest reefs in Indonesia. Eight guests at most, four divers per guide, and dive sites you will usually have to yourselves.
Georgia, Dimas & the Dive In team
Dive In is a small SSI dive centre in the village of Alor Besar, 45 minutes along the coast from the airport. It is run by Georgia and Dimas, the owners and dive guides, with a team from the Alor region: a captain who knows these waters like the back of his hand, a boat crew, housekeeping and a kitchen that guests can't stop talking about.
Everything here was designed around the dive day: a rinse area by the entrance, a side door from each cottage straight into the bathroom, desks with charging points for cameras, and a rooftop for sunset. Dives are planned each day for the tides, currents and the group, never from a fixed schedule.
Alor Besar · since 2026
Small groups, calm and considered
Two or three boat dives a day, usually two in the morning when conditions are best. Sites are 15 to 50 minutes away by boat, and we coordinate with the other operators so you rarely share a reef.

Two dives a day
Two morning boat dives and the afternoons free: read on the terrace, borrow the scooter or just sleep off the snacks.

Three dives a day
Two dives in the morning, lunch on land, and a third dive in the afternoon, often in the critter-filled bays.

Muck & night dives
Kalabahi Bay is sheltered from the current and full of critters. Night dives bring out a different cast and are calm, slow and great for photos.

Photographer friendly
Patient guiding, flexible profiles, ten minutes with one subject when safety allows, big rinse tanks and a water-filled camera box on the boat.
Is Dive In right for you?
Dive In is built for divers who value quality over quantity and like places that feel calm, personal and a little off the beaten path. Georgia and Dimas would rather help you decide than try to be everything to everyone, so here is their own checklist. Tap the side that sounds more like you.

It feels like diving with family
A small team of locals from the Alor region and dive professionals who now call the island home. These are the people guests mention by name, in their own words.
Georgia & Dimas
“During lunch they were often on the booking system, trying to secure the best dive sites for the next day.”
The kitchen
“Even on our 15th night, for our final dinner, we were still served new dishes.”
Captain & boat crew
“The crew handled everything: gear loaded, set up, and ready to go.”
Housekeeping
“The kitchen and housekeeping staff were brilliant.”
Walls, pinnacles, black-sand bays
From Alor Besar the boat reaches the walls of Ternate, the Pantar Strait and the muck of Kalabahi Bay. These are some of the well-known sites in the area; which ones you dive depends on the tide, the current and your group on the day.
Steep walls with arches, overhangs and black coral, whip corals metres long and nudibranchs on every ledge.
Where the Indonesian Throughflow pushes through: pinnacles, drifts, anemone fields, caves and the odd thermocline.
Black sand and rubble out of the current, home to rhinopias, frogfish, seahorses, dragonets and cephalopods.
Site descriptions are a general guide to the area, compiled for this concept. The marine park fee is IDR 400k per day or IDR 1.5m for a calendar-year pass for international guests. Currents can change within a dive, so sites are always chosen conservatively, with a full briefing.
Twelve seconds of Alor
Clips shared on Dive In's Google profile: a jetty full of fish, a wall dropping into the blue, a school in open water and a reef top in full sun.
What 41 guests wrote home about
We read every Google review and counted what people mentioned. Tap a line to read what they said. Nothing here is a promise: in Alor, every week brings different surprises.
Counts are the number of reviews that mention each subject, out of the 41 reviews on Dive In's Google profile at the time this concept was built. All reviews are five stars.
Dolphins, almost every day
“We also had the pleasure of seeing dolphins every day (sometimes from the roof with my morning coffee).” · Roland E., ten days with Dive In
From pygmy seahorses to coral cliffs
Alor is exceptional for macro, healthy reefs and topography, with bigger animals as a bonus rather than a promise. Tap any photo to see it larger.
Four cottages, one rooftop
The dive centre faces the island of Ternate and is a short stroll from the beach. With only four cottages, there are never more than eight guests, and dinner at the long wooden table quickly becomes the best part of the evening.

Open nine months, no species calendar
The season runs from about mid-March to mid-December. In the wetter months the centre closes, which gives the reefs a rest. Dive In deliberately doesn't sell trips around one species: reef life is consistently strong, and every week brings something different.

An island worth an afternoon off
Alor Besar is one of the island's oldest villages. Georgia and Dimas help organise land tours, and the free afternoons on the two-dive package are made for them.

Mawar the dugong
A local boat takes you out to watch Alor's famously sociable dugong, then back for sunset. Guests call it “an absolute must”.

Ternate's weavers
The island across the water is home to Umapura, where women weave ikat on hand looms with natural dyes.

A centuries-old Quran
Alor Besar's Gogo family keeps a handwritten Quran on bark paper, brought from Ternate in North Maluku generations ago.

Waterfalls & hills
Borrow the scooter, pack good shoes and explore Alor's waterfalls and hill villages.
“This is truly a place built by divers, for divers”
The corals are the best we have ever seen, even better than those in Raja Ampat and Komodo. Visibility reached up to 50 metres.
We never repeated a site during our entire week, which says a lot about the variety available in Alor.
We didn't share a single site with another group. Georgia and Dimas coordinate closely with other local operators so every guest gets the water to themselves.
I was a little anxious before the first dives, and without any fuss they gave me the extra time and attention I needed.
Dolphins and hammerheads to the incredible pygmy blue whale. Alor has probably the most diverse and healthy coral reef we have ever seen.
They took very good care of me as a senior diver. It is really like a home away from home.
